Our first Critter Crawl lesson focused on sportsmanship and the importance of being able to have fun even when we lose! Parent Volunteers read the book "Sally Sore Loser" and discussed ways that students can behave fairly and with respect. A huge thank you to our parent volunteers, we could not do this without you.
A big 'thank you' to our Family Awareness Network (FAN) for hosting the Mindfulness & Positivity Project this evening for our students, staff, and families!
A busy afternoon of learning for our Cañon Critters...
A very special congratulations to Carol Kleiner for her induction into the Cheyenne Mountain Hall of Fame!
A big 'thank you' to the students, families, and staff who participated in our District-wide wildland fire evacuation and reunification exercise at the Broadmoor World Arena on September 13, 2024! We also want to thank Pikes Peak OEM, CSFD, CSPD, D2, D11, and the Broadmoor for their support in planning and successful execution of our drill! Safety continues to be a top priority in D12!

Good afternoon, Cheyenne Mountain Staff and Families.
Below you will find a message we received this afternoon from the Colorado Springs Utilities that we wanted to pass along to you.
We are nearing completion of a large scale natural gas improvement project on Cheyenne Blvd. Many feet of aging gas main were installed this summer to prevent road closures during the school year. In addition, over 70 residential services will soon be installed along Cheyenne Blvd. after the school year start. Our crews are aware that school orientations are taking place tomorrow and Friday August 16th. Extra duty CSPD officers will be patrolling areas around all Cheyenne Mountain D12 schools to ensure the safety of everyone traveling in this corridor. The City of Colorado Springs continues their curb, gutter and paving work with more information here: https://coloradosprings.gov/cheyennestudy.
I want to again encourage safety and patience for everyone as we prepare to welcome back our amazing students for the start of another great school year!
My best,
David
Dr. David J. Peak, Superintendent
Welcome Back CMSD12 Staff for the 2024-25 school year!!! Students and families, we look forward to welcoming you back for another great year soon!!!
Welcome New CMSD12 Educators! We look forward to seeing the rest of our amazing colleagues, students, and families soon!!!
The preschool field day was an absolute blast for our critters and adults alike! It was a day filled with fun outdoor activities and games tailored to our little critters, where they showed off their amazing skills.
Our little critters have watched a miracle unfold and have been completely mesmerized by it. When our caterpillars arrived, they were tiny, and the students loved watching them squirm around in their little jar just eating and leaving trails of their threads behind them. Last week the very first caterpillar had made his chrysalis! We were so excited to be able to really examine it closely and then to watch day after day as the other caterpillars joined him in their own chrysalides. The day finally arrived, and the first butterfly started to come out and we watched as they grew strong enough to fly.
Jr. High theater class students wrote a play about Freddie the Frog and performed it in front of our little critters today. Thank you Jr. High for bringing the theater to Cañon!
Thank you Transition House! Staff and students from the District's Transition house visited and talked with students about the importance of the 3 Rs (reducing, reusing, and recycling) and planting classroom flowers. We are very lucky to have this opportunity, as April has been designated as Earth Month.
Thank you, Mr. Eick and members of the Junior High Creek Club, for teaching our little Critters about the wonderful creek behind the school. Junior High Creek Club students gave a presentation inside the school about the creek, and another group gave a demonstration outside by the creek about how to keep it clean for the critters that call it home. Students were able to help keep the creek clean by picking up trash.
It doesn't get more special than our yearly District-wide Art Show - student works across the grades and mediums... Absolutely incredible!!!
PTO sponsored a garden clean up day at Cañon to get the raised garden beds ready for our Little Critters to do some planting. Thank you PTO and to all the parents who donated items and or time to make this project a huge success.
